Bare Feet Downtown Brooklyn: Los Pleneros de la 21 (Puerto Rico)
Join the host of Emmy®-winning travel series Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi, as she brings some of her favorite dances to Downtown Brooklyn! Every Wednesday in June you’ll be transported on a cultural journey through music and dance, and of course FUN! Everyone is welcome to join on the dance floor!
Los Pleneros de la 21 is an intergenerational ensemble of venerated musicians and Bomba and Plena practitioners. LP21 is known for creating infectious sounds which combine the folkloric and raw percussion elements of Puerto Rican Bomba & Plena genres with contemporary and urban styles (Son, Salsa, Jazz, etc). Since 1983, LP21 has toured internationally to 200+ cities, received a Grammy Nomination and critical acclaim. They are regarded as the premiere Bomba and Plena institution, these genres’ Ambassadors to the World.
This concert is part of Los Pleneros de la 21’s En El Patio series, dedicated to expanding and presenting music in public spaces to activate our neighborhoods with cultural expression, and is made possible in part by funding from the NYC Council’s Cultural Immigrant Initiative.
