Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival: Discover the District is an annual weekend celebration of Downtown Brooklyn’s cultural community—and the artists, writers and performers who inspire the borough’s creative spirit. Throughout the weekend, acclaimed local arts organizations across the Brooklyn Cultural District will open their doors with exciting performances, talks, and tours, and present a host of free programming at The Plaza at 300 Ashland, including theater, poetry, dance, music, and other performances.

Mark Morris Dance Group: “Words”
The renowned Mark Morris Dance Group has its inaugural performance on the Plaza with Words, featuring live accompaniment. Set my music of Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words, “‘Words’ is another of Mr. Morris’ beguiling affairs, intriguingly expressing poetry beyond words.” (Wall Street Journal).
Salsa Dance Party featuring Los Hacheros
A salsa dance class led by Mark Morris Dance Center instructors Andre Degas and Cindy Dowden precedes modern-day torchbearers of the Golden Age of Latin music and local favorites, Los Hacheros as they close out the night with a salsa dance party. Their critically acclaimed music will inspire old-school salseros and young music fans alike to dance.
