The 2018 Downtown Brooklyn Presents event series launches on Saturday, April 21st with a celebration of Earth Day and Car Free NYC at Albee Square and Albee Square West, which will be shut down to traffic for the day. Plus, we’re partnering with City Point, so the fun can be had indoors and out!
1:30–3:00pm: Bash the Trash! The environmentally-friendly music troupe performs music, helps kids construct instruments from recycled materials, and then leads them in musical performance on Albee Square!
3:00-5:00pm: Learn to ride a bike! Bike New York teaches kids 5 - 14 how to ride safely along Albee Square West (which is closed to traffic for the day), while parents and guardians cheer them on! Bring your own bike and helmet and register here.
3:15–3:45pm and 4:00–4:30pm: Use your body power: family dance classes with the Dodge YMCA!
Throughout the afternoon:
Get cozy in Albee Square with The Uni Project’s mobile Earth Day Reading Room and their exhibition EXPLORE Birds where you can use magnifying glasses to look closely at birds, sketch them, listen to their songs and calls, and read about their life history and our relationship to them.
Meet Birdie, the official mascot for GreeNYC.
Learn about community-supported agriculture with Brooklyn Beet CSA.
Take celebratory Earth Day photos against a backdrop of Downtown Brooklyn (literally!)
Plant a seed; grow a sunflower!
Tie-Dye! Bring your own white t-shirts for a led tie-dying activity in our Earth Day Block Party colors (A limited number of shirts will be available for purchase on site.) Supplies limited!
Face-painting: at the end of the day, be adorned with Earth Day-inspired designs.
Albee Square West will be closed to traffic all day, so bring your bike and your deck chairs to enjoy Car Free NYC!
DJ Mike Doelo provides beats throughout!
At City Point:
