FAMILY | Future Saturdays Family Program: Modern Maritime
With over 3 miles of working waterfront, the Yard supports many modern maritime businesses including the FDNY, NYC Ferry, GMD Shipyard, and the Harbor School’s Billion Oyster Project. During this program, visitors will get the chance to sign up for one of two tours:
12:30 pm: Explore the Yard’s waterfront with stops at FDNY, Harbor School’s Billion Oyster Project, and a historical dry dock (led by official Yard tour provider Turnstile Tours)
1:45 pm: Take a ferry ride and learn about what it’s like to operate and work for NYC Ferry (led by the team at NYC Ferry)
Between tours, fun games and activities will be available for kids to explore, and BNY staff will be on hand to answer questions about the Yard.
Check in for tours is first come, first serve. Tours are limited to 30, so please arrive 15 minutes before each scheduled tour (if the first tour is at capacity, those who arrive late will have first priority for second tour). Please note, unlike many Future Saturdays where activities are drop-in, the tours for this program have firm start times.
Future Saturdays is an inter-generational program that takes place once a month between May and October. This program features Yard-based businesses and local community organizations that are helping to (re)define urban innovation and urban manufacturing. Future Saturdays is geared toward residents with children ages 5 – 12 (Adults without children will not be permitted to the program).
ADULTS WHO ARRIVE WITHOUT CHILDREN WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PROGRAM.
