Guitar Mash: A Campfire Jam
Led by Mark Stewart (Paul Simon, Bang on a Can), featuring Emel, Delicate Steve, Scott Sharrard (Gregg Allman Band), Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and other special guests
“Songs shared are bridges built.” - Mark Stewart, Guitar Mash Artistic Director
From metal shredders to blues balladiers to acoustic beginners and those that just like to sing along, Guitar Mash creates participatory events for guitarists and music lovers of diverse ages, abilities and backgrounds, connecting people with each other and some of the greatest musicians in the world. Founded in 2012 with the goal of creating opportunities for people to be actively involved in music, and to make music with other people, Guitar Mash has gathered hundreds of everyday people together with inspiring musicians – including Nels Cline, Lenny Kaye, Valerie June, G.E. Smith and Dar Williams, among others – around the proverbial campfire.
Bring your guitar or just bring you! Players and non-players welcome. Want to practice up in advance? The evening’s playlist, chords and lyrics will be available starting April 21 at guitarmash.org.
NOTE: Capacity in the BRIC House Ballroom is limited, and admission is on a first come, first served basis, whether you have RSVP’ed or not. Please come early to ensure entry and seating.
This event is part of the BRIC OPEN Festival, which aims shine a light on the power of inclusive, participatory arts & media programming to shake up our ideas about who makes and consumes culture, whose voices and stories sit at the center of artistic creation, and how we come together to imagine, and move toward, the future we want.
