Iconic Artist Talk with Thomas Ostermeier
Thomas Ostermeier returns to the Next Wave Festival with a new staging of Richard III. In this discussion with playwright and 2016 MacArthur fellow Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Everybody, An Octoroon, Gloria), the German director surveys his career at BAM since his debut in 2004 with Nora, an adaptation of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. Since then, Ostermeier has returned with his contemporary adaptations of other Ibsen plays Hedda Gabler, in 2006, and An Enemy of the People, in 2013, as well as filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s The Marriage of Maria Braun. Ostermeier’s production of An Enemy of the People, heads to Broadway this season in an American version by Jacobs-Jenkins.
