Phantom Thread with Live Score
BAM and Wordless Music present Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread, in its US premiere with live accompaniment of Jonny Greenwood’s score. New York’s Wordless Music Orchestra collaborates with principals from London Contemporary Orchestra—featured on the original recording for Nonesuch—to perform the entirety of Greenwood’s score, along with selections by Brahms, Schubert, Faure, and Debussy.
Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville star in Anderson’s new film, set amid the glamour of postwar London in the 1950s. Renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, debutants, and dames with the distinct style of the House of Woodcock. Woodcock is a confirmed bachelor, with women coming and going throughout his life, until he comes across a strong-willed young woman, Alma (Krieps), who becomes a fixture as his muse and lover. But he soon finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. Anderson paints an illuminating portrait of an artist on a creative journey—and the women who keep his world running.
