Introducing “The 5x10 Talks”
2014 marks a momentous milestone for Downtown Brooklyn – the ten-year anniversary of the rezoning that paved the way for much of the unprecedented growth our neighborhood is experiencing. To commemorate the occasion and celebrate all that is happening in our neighborhood, we present “The 5x10 Talks,” to be held at BRIC Arts | Media House at 7:30pm on Tuesday, May 6.
We figured what better way to showcase the innovation that is taking place in Downtown Brooklyn than to hear from a few of the innovators themselves – in their own words. To that end, we have invited five leaders in their fields here in Downtown Brooklyn to answer the question, “What’s Next?”
They are: Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot; Brett Yormark, CEO of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center; Deborah Schwartz, President of the Brooklyn Historical Society; Katherine Isbister, Director of the NYU Game Innovation Lab; and Ralph McDaniels, Founder of Video Music Box. We’ll also showcase the cultural community with performances from Soul Science featuring Chen Lo and Asante’ Amin, presented by 651 Arts; “I Hear America Singing,” presented by American Opera Projects; “Danny & Annie,” presented by StoryCorps; and present an award honoring outgoing Downtown Brooklyn Partnership board chairman, Alan Fishman, for his service to the community.
The event is made possible by support from Popular Community Bank, BRIC, Building on Bond, Brooklyn Brewery, and Titan. Tickets are $50, with a limited number of early bird tickets available at $25 if purchased by April 15. Proceeds go toward supporting the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership’s free community events.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available and include a special pre-event reception with the speakers; promotion on DowntownBrooklyn.com and through our media partner, Brooklyn Magazine; and more. For more information, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
