Now listing at TKTS: Brooklyn performances
February 10, 2014
Many theater enthusiasts in-the-know are already familiar with the perks of the TKTS booth located at MetroTech Center; it opens earlier than the Times Square location, which means you can get those discounted Broadway and off-Broadway tickets sooner – and you rarely have to stand in line to do so. Now TKTS Downtown Brooklyn is adding another reason to visit.
Thanks to a partnership with ticketing provider, OvationTix, the Downtown Brooklyn location is equipped to sell tickets up to a week in advance for performances by Brooklyn-based cultural groups, with BRIC Arts | Media House, American Opera Projects (AOP), and Irondale Ensemble Project already taking advantage.
“Irondale is committed to reaching the broadest and most diverse audiences,” said Terry Greiss, executive director of Irondale. “People who are used to seeing ‘what’s available’ at TKTS may be new to Irondale. We have an opportunity by working with the booth to introduce Broadway and Off-Broadway theater goers to provocative, challenging, and highly entertaining theater created by a company of actors. We are so excited to shake a lot of new hands.”
Irondale and AOP have listed tickets for their upcoming joint production, Lines of Freedom, which features two original shows in honor of Black History Month. And because their tickets are under $30, TKTS allows them to be sold full-price at the booth, meaning smaller cultural groups benefit from the increased exposure, while not taking a hit on potential revenue. The new partnership resulted from a conversation started over a year ago with the Theatre Development Fund (which manages TKTS), the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, and the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer tickets to some local Brooklyn venues through the Ovation Tix system,” said Michael Naumann, Theatre Development Fund’s Managing Director. “We hope that as time goes by Brooklyn residents will view the TKTS Booth in MetroTech as a vehicle to not only purchase same day evening and next day matinee tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway shows, but to a variety of local productions at up to a week in advance.”
Tickets are now on sale at TKTS Downtown Brooklyn for upcoming Brooklyn-based productions, alongside same-day evening and next-day matinee Broadway and off-Broadway shows. Visit the booth from 11am to 6pm Tuesdays to Saturdays; click here for more info.
