Good news for dance fans—on Saturday, May 3, LIU Brooklyn will host the inaugural Rise of an Empire Step Competition, which will welcome dance teams from New York and beyond to compete for the title of “Best in Brooklyn.”
The six teams, which hail from Downtown Brooklyn institutions LIU Brooklyn, St. Francis College, City Tech, Berkeley College, and NYU Poly, as well as out-of-staters from Maryland, will go head-to-head in either the Fraternity or Sorority division, with three teams competing in each division.
“This is our inaugural show that will bring excitement and traffic to the Downtown Brooklyn area,” said Natasha Lewis, Associate Director of Student Life and Leadership Development at LIU Brooklyn. “We’re looking forward to the energy, the people, and the exposure to our Greek life community here in New York City.
Besides bragging rights, the winning teams also receive cash prizes and a championship trophy.
The big battle goes down on Saturday, May 3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at LIU Brooklyn’s Schwartz Gymnasium, located at 161 Ashland Place.
The competition is open to the public, and tickets may be purchased online beforehand, on the day of the event, and at the door for $15, $20, and $25, respectively. To buy tickets, visit the event website.
