Catch the 1st annual Ingersoll Basketball Tourney

August 22, 2016

NBA pre-season might not start until October, but this week there is a basketball tournament over at the Ingersoll houses that you won’t want to miss. 296 kids are playing for the championship at the first annual Ingersoll all-ages basketball tournament this week, of which we at the Partnership are very proud sponsors.

At Ingersoll, there are more teens within a one-mile radius than any other age group. Some take part in activities at the community center, but the rest needed something to entertain them during this scorching hot summer, “so we said let’s start a basketball tournament and see how it all works out,” said Anthony Sosa, one of the tournament organizers.

Separated into three tracks, under 11s, under 13s, and under 15s, there are twelve games total, including the championship games on August 25th. Festivities also include a Double Dutch tournament, family activities and a tournament legends game on August 27th at 3pm, which will include street ball all-stars like Ed ‘Booger’ Smith, famous for playing a game of pick-up ball against Michael Jordan and being the only street baller to make Sports Illustrated magazine.

For those who haven’t been here to watch a game before, the tournament is located at 16 Fleet Walk just past the corner of Tillary and Navy Streets on the basketball courts just adjacent to a small playground.

The schedule will run as follows through the end of the week.
