How to meet your neighbors in Downtown Brooklyn this summer
April 26, 2017
This past weekend was the first of DBP’s monthly BK Block Parties out on Albee Square, and it was a huge hit with local families from Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, even a few from Gowanus, Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope.
The day started off with a bang, with Grammy award winning and Emmy nominated singer Tim Kubart taking the stage, playing his heart out for the kids.
Then, we all started jumping around - double-dutching around to be exact!
Double Dutch Empire rocked Albee Square, teaching everyone who dared to jump in feet first. They were such a hit with people large and small, that they’ll be returning for all of our block parties throughout the year.
Whether you were dancing between the ropes, getting your face-painted or getting your very own balloon animal made, there were so many opportunities to get to know your neighbors. If you missed it, come on out to the May 20 block party with JahPan - steel drum and calypso musicians playing island classics - plus more fun, including hula hoops, giant bubbles and… more double dutch!
BK Block Parties are part of over 80 events this summer as a part of our Downtown Brooklyn Presents events series. Next up in June is Wednesdays @ Willoughby, and two exciting events with our partners at Mark Morris Dance Group - the Let’s Dance at the Atlantic Terminal series (every Saturday in June) and morning yoga in the MetroTech Commons on Tuesdays at 6am.
Whether you’re looking for wellness, family-friendly activities or live music and a post-work beer, we’ve got events to connect you with friends and neighbors in Downtown Brooklyn all year long.
