Bixby is a building amenity platform that makes it easy for property owners and managers to provide top quality service to their tenants and residents. We caught up with Founder, Mark Smukler, to get the lowdown on their next steps:
DBP: How do you plan to use the $5,000 cash prize to help or advance your business?
Mark: We’re going to use the $5k cash prize to produce a weekly web series incorporating property owners and managers, local businesses, government agencies, and technology companies working on innovative smart city solutions as a way to bring together members of the community to talk about ways that we can all work together to create cities of the future. We’ll address topics like laws restricting innovation, exciting new technologies disrupting real estate, and ways for local businesses to compete with and even benefit from tech-enabled on-demand new entrants.

DBP: Why is Brooklyn a great place to do business for your startup?
Mark: Brooklyn is a great place to do business for a startup for a lot of reasons. First, Brooklyn has become an extremely innovative environment that supports entrepreneurs and the development of new ideas. Building disruptive businesses isn’t possible in a silo and really requires involvement from several different stakeholders including community organizations like the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, as well as local government, property owners, and residents. Another reason that Brooklyn is a great place to do business is access to talent and the ability to cultivate community. Startups can’t compensate employees as much as more mature organizations, so intangibles like creating an environment conducive to innovation where like-minded individuals can build and learn from one-another is extremely important.
Bixby’s software enables managers to automate and organize their operations, resulting in less time and money spent on overseeing repairs, communicating with tenants, and collecting payments.
