SUMMARY:Teatro La Plaza's Hamlet
DESCRIPTION:“★★★★★ Brilliant …This infectiously exuberant production serves as a reminder that Shakespeare is accessible to all\, and Hamlet is for everyone” The Telegraph \n“A performance like none I’ve ever witnessed during my 30-plus years of writing about entertainment and arts and culture … the complete definition of theatre for the mind\, spirit\, soul and imagination … The troupe delivers an all-encompassing crossover narrative that penetrates the heart.” The Chicago Tribune \n“★★★★★ “The ferocious\, left‑field freshness of its approach… shaken up\, translated\, fragmented\, relived and reconstructed in spectacular style … offering a non‑stop feast of new insights … the show still ends with an exhilarated audience leaping up to dance onstage with the company; thrilled by the joy\, the irreverence\, the profound insight\, and the deep sense of human solidarity”  The Scotsman \nIn this brilliant\, funny\, and moving adaptation\, Peruvian director Chela De Ferrari intertwines the text of Shakespeare’s Hamlet with the lived experiences of a young ensemble of eight actors with Down syndrome. With wry humor\, playful energy\, pop music\, and pointed critique\, the performers confront the play’s timeless themes—grief\, revenge\, and existence—with striking honesty and insight. Drawing resonant parallels between Shakespeare’s Denmark and our contemporary world\, they offer a vision of a more just and joyful imagined future.

SUMMARY:Caroline Davis // Matt Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:A double bill of two solo sets incorporating improvisation: saxophonist Caroline Davis\, on saxophone and electronics\, and a completely improvised performance by pianist Matt Mitchell. \nCaroline Davis performs solo\, taking a creative approach to the nexus between saxophone and electronics. Pieces for Caroline’cs performance will include the following selections and will be decided upon spontaneously\, given the atmosphere of the room and the people present. The interactive technology used in this performance includes patches developed for the Organelle by Caroline and others (the technobear\, shreeswifty\, critterandguitari\, tony j morton\, nobuyasu sakonda\, soxsa\, varicela\, nicky-system\, samesimilar\, and chrisk in Pure Data) as well as a Boss loop station with mixer capabilities. All the titles and songs are in reverence to bell hooks: \nLove as a practice of freedom\nRadical openness\nMaintenance of commitment\nAccept when\nBelief in one’s capacity to transform\nWhat it means to listen\nEliminating elimination \nMatt Mitchell opens the evening. Following the Obliquity Records releases of his critically lauded and completely improvised solo piano albums Illimitable and Sacrosanctity\, Mitchell will play a completely improvised\, spontaneous performance on solo piano. \nA livestream will be available free of charge at 8pm on the day of the performance and archived for future viewing.
