On Monday, we gathered with the family, friend and colleagues of Public Safety Officer Nicola Tanzi to honor his life and legacy with two permanent tributes in Downtown Brooklyn.

Nicola served Downtown Brooklyn for more than 17 years and was a beloved member of our team, remembered for his warmth, professionalism, and deep commitment to the community.

DBP President Regina Myer, Council Member Lincoln Restler (@cmrestler), and Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon (@joannesimonforbrooklyn) shared remarks before the unveiling of the newly co-named Nicola Tanzi Way at Willoughby & Lawrence Streets. The morning continued at Abolitionist Place, where a memorial plaque was dedicated in Nicola’s honor.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in remembering Nicola and ensuring his legacy remains a permanent part of Downtown Brooklyn.

🎥 Spike Lee and BAM are bringing a new festival to Downtown Brooklyn.

The legendary filmmaker, alongside Nicholas Ma and Clara Wu Tsai, will debut Playback: The Brooklyn Watch Party at @BAMFilmBrooklyn this November.

The two-day festival will celebrate Brooklyn's creative spirit with film screenings, artist conversations, live performances, pop-ups, and a free block party.
