Downtown Brooklyn Asphalt Art Walk With BOICUT

Join Downtown Brooklyn Partnership for an engaging walk with Austrian artist BOICUT who will be refreshing the district’s extensive network of Asphalt Art with new designs.

As part of the Downtown Brooklyn Public Realm Action Plan, Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) has worked with NYC Dept of Transportation to significantly expand pedestrian spaces through Shared Streets.

In May, the 28 pedestrian spaces – comprising close to 12,000 square feet – will be refreshed with new Asphalt Art designed by Austrian artist BOICUT. Join DBP and BOICUT for an interactive walking tour to learn more about Shared Streets, Asphalt Art, and BOICUT’s design and installation process. BOICUT’s visual work is illustrative, combining impulsive lines and shapes. Since his early days, his work has been inspired by popular culture, skateboarding, the beauty of mundane objects and urban environments. Unlike wall murals, Asphalt Art offer a unique mode of interaction, as people walk on or around them, viewing the artwork from all angles. Inspired by street views of the neighborhood’s shops and signs strung together by shared infrastructure, BOICUT designed an artwork dissected into diverse shapes filled with abstract lines. His distinctive palette of six vibrant colors, style and use of visual elements aim to unify the many pedestrian fragments into a cohesive artwork that will build design connections across the neighborhood. The tour will start at Willoughby Plaza and move visitors through different Shared Streets and Plazas in Downtown Brooklyn.
