Brooklyn came together again at Albee Square for Downtown Brooklyn Gets Lit 2023, a holiday lighting ceremony and celebration in partnership with City Point BKLYN and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President featuring live performances, giveaways, and a countdown to turn on both the Albee Square tree lights and the neighborhood holiday lights!

Stilt walkers from Bond Street Theater, poi dancer Andrea Flow, and Martin the juggler from Flow Juggle got the party started at 4:45 PM with festive dancing and performances to iconic holiday bops spun by DJ Mike Doelo.

While the party got started, attendees flocked to the DBP tent to nab a variety of goodies with which to enjoy the celebration. Our blue DTBK beanies, PEZ® candies, and glow sticks were a hit, and we stayed warm with free hot chocolate from Empanada Loca at AL B’s.

Attendees danced and sang along as carolers from Frequency performed a cappella versions of popular holiday songs next to the Albee Square tree.

Downtown Brooklyn Partnership President Regina Myer, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, and District 33 Councilmember Lincoln Restler took to the microphone to thank the community for coming out and celebrating. Reynoso called for the kids on the Plaza to help them with the countdown and flipping the switch on the Albee Square tree lights. Together with the rest of the plaza, they transformed the Square and Fulton Mall into a sparkly wonderland of lights.

With the Square aglow, and people full of hot chocolate and holiday cheer, the neighborhood was more than fully prepared for the season!
